Finasteride is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), such as frequent and difficult urination. Besides this, it is also used to treat male pattern hair loss.
Finasteride contains Finasteride, which works by blocking the action of male hormones that cause prostate enlargement and hair loss. Thereby, it helps treat BPH and male pattern hair loss.
In some cases, Finasteride may cause low sexual desire, impotence (erectile dysfunction), abnormal ejaculation, or trouble having an orgasm. Most of these side effects of Finasteride may not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Do not take Finasteride if you are allergic to any of its components. Finasteride is not intended for use in women and children. Keep the doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any side effects/interactions.

RefreshFinasteride is used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. BPH is caused by an enlarged prostate. Men with BPH usually have difficulty urinating, a decreased flow of urination, hesitation at the beginning of urination, and a need to get up at night to urinate. Finasteride will make these symptoms less severe and reduce the chance that prostate surgery will be needed. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines such as an alpha-blocker to treat BPH. For men with hair loss, finasteride will increase the number of scalp hairs but will not increase the amount of body hair.
Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme changes testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow or hair loss in males. It will increase testosterone levels in the body, which decreases prostate size and increases hair growth on the scalp. The effect of finasteride on the prostate and scalp will only last as long as the medicine is taken. When it is stopped, the prostate begins to grow again and the hair will be lost.

I got the prescription for propecia today. I have been taking it for about a year now and the results have been amazing. I am on 5mg at the moment so I would be curious about whether there is a generic alternative for Propecia but I do not know any that would work. I am curious about how you would go about it since I am considering it. Propecia is a brand name that contains finasteride. I am interested in a different form of the drug but I was wondering if there was a generic equivalent of Propecia. I have read that you can buy generic versions but is there a chance you might be able to find one that is as effective as the brand name one? I have read that there is generic finasteride but I do not know how effective they are. I want to ask my questions and if there is a generic alternative that might work for me, that would be great. Thanks in advance.
MerckThanks for the advice, I will talk to my dermatologist about this if it is a good option. I also want to mention that I am on 5mg at the moment so the results have been incredible. I would like to get it on the same as Propecia so my doctor could see whether it is as effective as Propecia. I am a little curious as to whether there is a generic version for Finasteride. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have read on the Internet that there is a generic Finasteride and it was mentioned that there is a Propecia that is equivalent to Propecia. The only difference is that there are generic finasteride that are approved by the FDA but there are also generics that are made by a company that manufactures these medications and that are FDA-approved. I do not know if there is a generic version of Finasteride. If there is, then I would really ask your dermatologist about it. Thanks in advance!
WalgreensI am on 5mg at the moment but I am considering going with the Propecia option. I am curious if there is a generic alternative for Propecia. I am looking for one that will work as well as the brand name one so my dermatologist can help me get the benefits of both. I know that Propecia has some side effects but I am curious about what is the FDA approved generic alternative for Propecia. I want to ask my dermatologist whether there is one that is as effective as the brand name version. Thanks again!
Rite HealthThanks for the info, my dermatologist is not quite as knowledgeable as I have been on 5mg Propecia, but they have already discussed this and it would be good if you could ask someone else. I have been on Propecia for about a year and they are both very effective. They were both approved by the FDA and the generic version of finasteride has a much better results than the brand name one. I am curious as to whether there is a generic version of Propecia. I am looking for a generic version of Propecia so my dermatologist could give me a good answer. Thanks!
